Volunteers Needed for a Mega Event, March 18

REal estate 2017“I would like to invite you to volunteer for an event I am helping run at the Metro Toronto Convention with Tony Robbins, PitBull,  Jim Treliving from Dragon’s Den, Christina El Moussa from Flip or Flop, Todd Talbot from Love It or List It Vancouver and others.

The date of the event is Saturday, March 18, 2017.

If you would like to volunteer, please read the instructions, fill out the form below and let me know when you have done so.  I will keep track of who has signed up through me as I will be handling your registration on site, and I will not see the notifications through the link.

Here are a few important details:

Volunteers must be able to work at least an 8 hour shift Saturday March 18 and attend a mandatory training session on Friday March 17 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm OR 6:00 – 8:00 pm.

Hours on the show day can range from 8-16 hours (as early as 6:00 am and as late as 1 am), depending on availability and assignment.  (most positions may be done when the show ends approx. 6:45 pm – 8:00 pm)  Times are an estimate only.

You will receive a $20 travel reimbursement plus a meal voucher ticket to use towards one meal while working the event.

DRESS CODE: A button-front, long-sleeved, white shirt and black pants or skirt. Clothing should be clean and pressed–look professional! Keep in mind that the days will involve a lot of standing, so wear comfortable shoes (but no sneakers, please).  Note:  If the volunteer does not have these clothes they may be asked to leave.


DUTIES: You will be given a specific assignment in advance based on the needs of the Expo, but we will reassign staff to other jobs throughout the day. Please note that we can not assign staff to any particular speakers or sessions.

Assignments include:

Door Monitor—greet attendees as they enter the large halls, check for badges.

Information—answer questions and direct attendees.

Registration—giving expo badges to prepaid attendees, selling badges to walk-ins, customer service for guests, VIPs, exhibitors.

Sales—assisting with the sales of high-end real estate product ($500-$5000). Make sure customers complete forms, answer questions, process credit cards.

Order Processing/Fulfillment—Assisting with the sales by checking that customers complete forms, answering questions, processing credit cards, giving materials to customers.

Usher—Welcome attendees and help them find a seat—move them UP and IN! 

Crowd Control—Manage lines and groups of attendees, give directions to large groups, prevent overcrowding and blocked hallways. Monitor flow in and out of seminar rooms.

Product handler—Working behind the scenes, making sure boxes of product are in the right place at the right time. Involves some lifting.

REQUIREMENTS: Special event, sales, real estate, customer service, expo and/or conference experience a plus, though not absolutely necessary. What is necessary is that you be courteous, energetic, flexible, have excellent communication skills, and be comfortable in a busy, fast-paced environment!

Boris: “I had some funny and embarrassing situation many years ago when I just arrived to Canada as immigrant.

About 2-3 weeks after arrival I went to supermarket to do grocery shopping. So I was moving along the different section and noticed Pepsi cola  bottles on the shelf. The label on the bottles stated the writing “Pepsi Free” which meant caffeine free but being a new immigrant I did not know that.. So I loaded my shopping cart with bottles of Pepsi cola and headed to the cashier. She started counting the bottles and calculating the charge. When she told how much I had to pay, I became really mad and asked her in my broken English why she was charging me showing her the label on the bottles with “Pepsi Free” on them. I said it is free and you cannot charge me and then she obviously started laughing so hard and when finally stopped, she explained to me everything but as I was leaving the store, I heard her laughing again. 

I definitely made her day and even if she was in the bad mood before, I helped her a lot.”

 

 Victoria: “In 2010, Natasha and I decided for a long weekend + a couple more of vacation days to travel to Quebec ( Montreal, Quebec City, Tadoussac to see whales).

On July 1st we stayed in Quebec City assuming that it would be a beautiful city to see fireworks which we have here in Toronto. We found a nice restaurant, which was half empty sipping coffee we asked a waitress who brought a bill,  what time the fireworks should be.
Waitress: – What fireworks?

I : – Canada Independence  Day fireworks

Waitress: – Oh, I don’t know (seeing our dilated/ surprised eyes  and being polite she said)- Let me ask the manager.

We never received an answer. We thought that young people who worked in the restaurant, may not know. Only a couple of months late we learned that some regions in Quebec do not celebrate Canada Day “because July 1st is the day when the majority of rental leases are renewed and people are busy moving in and out”:-)”
